When we think of things to do for fun, diet and exercise generally aren’t the first words that come to mind. Just the thought of fitting back into our favorite pair of jeans is exhausting on its own. The process of diet change, exercise, and maintaining it long term can be overwhelming. Since consistency is key with weight loss, it only makes sense to make it an enjoyable process. So we’ve put together some ideas to help you have fun while losing weight.
Turn it into a competition.
Challenge your friends to a little friendly competition. Setting up morning or evening workout dates will help keep you accountable while also giving you a good excuse to hang out with friends. You can use fitness trackers like Fitbit, iPhone or Apple watch, android phone, Jawbone Up, Larklife, and Misfit to monitor how many calories each of you burn during a workout. If you’re not sure which fitness tracker is best for you, this guide can help you narrow your search down.
Schedule brunch dates.
Get together with friends and try out different healthy restaurants. Make it a point to try a new restaurant each week. Associating healthier eating with fun will help retrain your brain to crave the healthier meals over those fast food meals you were eating before.
Create a way to reward yourself at the end of each week by attaching a point value to specific workouts. Then create a list of rewards, attaching a different point value total to each reward. At the end of the week calculate the total points you earned for your workouts, and then reward yourself accordingly.
Water, water, water!
Studies have shown that drinking plenty of water each day can reduce your calorie intake by 9% and prevent long-term weight gain as well. The first step is to figure out just how much water you should drink each day.
If you want some flavor to jazz up your water, infused is the way to go! It’s practically calorie free, plus there’s no toxic additives. You can add your own fruits, veggies, herbs, and even spices to the water. Just drop them into your water container, fill it with water, and let it sit a few hours for the flavors to infuse. The longer it sits, the more flavorful it will be. Use thin slices of fruits and veggies so the flavor infuses faster.
Take it outside.
Find outdoor activities to keep you moving and burning calories. Go on nature walks, throw on some rollerblades & skate through the rollerblading park, or hop on a bicycle and take a ride on the bike trails. Don’t forget to bring your fruit infused water with you when you go.
